June 3, 2014

June is here already and so much has happened over the past two months that I genuinely don’t know where to start! It seems like only last week that it was Easter and we were down on the farm in Cornwall with my parents. Since then, Morwenna has started walking, Lizzie has started the terrible twos, Ian has started enjoy gardening in his spare minutes (when not drowning in a sea of reports and books) and I have started to both run and read again.

About 7 or 8 years ago, my brother kindly leant me a book called “Let My People Go Surfing.” Not only had I never given it back but I hadn’t even opened it (sorry Tim) until now. Written by Yvon Chouinard, founder of Patagonia, its contents have filled me with enormous confidence that what I am experiencing as a new business owner/entrepreneur/comfortable job discarder is totally normal and, quite frankly, expected. Here I was, getting frustrated that my business plan hadn’t been quite right, my systems and processes were flawed, things weren’t going exactly as I had anticipated – with the business a whole 5 months old…yes… I’ll stop talking now.

leading women

On returning to Somerset, I knew that one of my first priorities needed to be building and developing my own business network in the area. I’ve always been a massive fan of Women in Business (in an entirely non-feminist way) and so when Rachel Jones of Leading Women UK asked me to be a
Champion for the Somerset area it seemed like the most perfect opportunity to do.
just that.

I am looking for women who either own and/or run their own business, or those who are management level or above in practice/industry. I want to make friends – not just business associates! I’d like to find like-minded professionals who need, like me, support and advice in an entirely non-judgemental forum on a monthly basis in a local pub. We are all masters in our own fields. So just think what we can achieve when we all sit in a room together!

To kick things off in style we are throwing a launch party at Ston Easton Park from 6.30pm – 8.30pm on Thursday 24th July 2014. It’s a FREE champagne and canapés reception so I’d love it if you could please tell all your friends, and your friend’s friends too! The more the merrier. To book your place(s) click here.

I’m delighted to announce that Free Range Business has now officially been registered to deliver Business Development Coaching through the Growth Accelerator service. In short, this means that we can help small businesses at a ridiculously reduced rate. Click the logo below to find out if your business is eligible now!

Growth Acc

We are also registered under the Growth Voucher scheme, where businesses can apply for up to £2,000 of matched funding (I have this month received my repayment from the Growth Voucher team so can confirm the system does work!) Use the following link to apply: https://www.gov.uk/apply-growth-vouchers

I will be emailing all our lovely clients direct to urge them to apply for one or all of the above schemes as they are all just brilliant. There is a huge amount of support available out there for businesses who want to grow and expand…it’s just all about knowing where to look…

Happy June people!
