Jo Murray, BSc (Hons) FCA

JoI trained as an ICAEW Chartered Accountant with Pricewaterhouse Coopers in Reading before finishing my training as an employee of James Cowper in Newbury, after the sale of my department in 2004.

After qualifying in 2006, I got a job as an Accountancy Tutor with FTC (Now Kaplan) in Bristol, primarily teaching Accounting, Audit, Financial Reporting & Corporate Law to both professional ACA & ACCA students.

In 2008, I was offered the role of Financial Controller for a large racing stables in Wiltshire and managed the development of the stables following a £10m investment into the business. It was an exciting introduction into the world of being a Financial Controller and an invaluable experience in the running of a small-medium sized owner-managed business.

In 2010, I returned to practice as a Manager with Smith & Williamson in Salisbury, to help my previous boss setup a Bloodstock & Equine Team within the firm. This is a role I dearly loved. However, following the births of my two gorgeous daughters, I decided to ‘go it alone’ in order to restore and protect my own personal work-life balance.

Daughter of a Cornish dairy farmer, I grew up making dens in the stacks of straw bales in the barn, and playing with ponies. Although there is something quite weird and wonderful about the corporate world, my heart lies in the country. I would much rather help small, local, rural businesses grow and reach their full potential than make rich people richer in the City.

Why don’t our services cost an arm and a leg? Well, why should they? Most small businesses can’t afford a full time Financial Controller and so equally would be unable to pay through the nose for help with their accounts, bookkeeping, payroll, VAT, forecasting and suchlike. Job satisfaction is incredibly important to us and far outweighs any financial aspirations we may have!

If you are looking for a highly qualified, amiable and down-to-earth team to give you a hand with your finances then don’t hesitate to get in touch.
